More about our Salt Water Fishing Rods

All of our rods are handmade here in the USA. We start by “splining” or “spining” each rod blank to find the correct parabolic curve. This is like buying new tires for your car and not having them properly balanced! A well built rod MUST be spined properly! Our double-footed guides have an under-wrapping (just as you’d put a blanket on a horses back to protect it from the chafing of the saddle) then are double over-wrapped. We then double-coat them with a UV filtering epoxy to protect the thread from the harmful UV rays of the Sun. This is not a UV fast-drying epoxy commonly found in lesser quality rods. Our reel seats are shimmed and filled with epoxy; not spot glued, to help ensure they do not break apart and come lose. All this attention to detail ensures you the best quality available here in the USA. We pride ourselves on building and delivering you a rod you’ll fish for years and years, and will quite possible become an heir-loom in your family! Something you’ll be proud to pass from generation to generation!

The vast majority of the blanks we use are carefully designed and tested by one of the most experienced group of anglers and designers in the fishing industry today. Local Hooker Rods are built with either the Batson Rainshadow® or Forecast® Rod blanks. These blanks offer cutting edge technology and performance. Before any Rainshadow® or Forecast® rod blank is shipped, it is inspected for straightness, check the butt and tip diameter, and deflect it to verify correct power and rod action. All Rainshadow® and Forecast® blanks are rated for power on a numerical basis. A power of “0” being the lightest and “9” being the heaviest. “Power” is how much pressure it takes to deflect a blank. The higher the number the stiffer the blank. Power ratings are series specific. For example: A “3” power mag bass blank is not the same as a “3” power saltwater blank. For this reason power ratings are compared within each series.

We use Batson Enterprises top-of-the-line ALPS™ components, and their high performance, yet value oriented Forecast® component line up. What is so special about the component line up compared to other product lines out there? To start with, the design team involved with the creation of all these components is in excess of 125 years of combined component and rod manufacturing experience. That level of experience is unmatched in the industry. No corners are cut, just honest quality, value and the attention to all the little details Worldwide many high end rod manufacturers are choosing Alps™ and Forecast™ components for building the rods used by today’s top fishermen. We at Local Hooker Rods feel this way too!
