Bob:
I'll be coming out late Friday and fishing early AM Saturday, assuming I am still standing… Any reports offshore?
By the way, your Local Hooker rod did a good job on a blue shark off of the Vineyard ten days ago… Too bad I missed the
#200 thresher that stomped through the baits!
Bob,
I just wanted to give you some feedback on the
Local Hooker spinning rod I purchased a few months
ago. I used it in an area Bass fishing tournament
recently . It performed with an excellent balance
of power ( for a good hook set) and finesse. I ended
up winning my division, and couldn't be happier with
this rod's performance.
From a very satisfied customer!

Subject: Cool Pictures w/ local rod
Hey Bob here are the pictures of my first fish. It was 125 pounds and 57 inches. We went out yesterday and got 2 more about 100 pounds.
We're 3 for 3 this year and counting. Love the rods…
Thanks Joe
Bob,
Here's a few photos of the brown shark I caught
from the beach the other night. We estimated it to
be over 70 pounds, and we released it unharmed. I
was using a Local Hooker 10-foot conventional rod
and it worked like a charm! You need a rod with a
lot of backbone to turn these sharks. This beast made
two bulldog runs at a jetty, and then bee-lined straight
at a channel marker. If I didn't have a powerful rod
with good stopping power, we never would have landed
this shark.
We captured the whole event on video, and I was amazed
when I watched the footage the next morning.
The fight seemed like an eternity, but in reality
it lasted just over 6 minutes. I was able to put
the brakes on the shark early in the battle, I broke
its spirit and I stayed in control the whole
time. These big brown sharks can punish your tackle,
and I've seen more of these fish broken off than
I've seen landed. You need some heavy duty gear,
and everything needs to be set up perfectly. The
10-foot Local Hooker rod is well built, well designed
and has the stopping power needed to land big fish!
Thanks Again!

Gotta get a Hooker!!!! As in Local Hooker Rods based in Cape Cod, MA. I just got my custom 10ft 2pc Med conventional rod. They use American Tackle blanks. I requested orange/silver wrapping, "Pauley" on top of rod, EVA foregrip, trigger grip, rear cork tape handle, Pacific Bay butt, and 24inch from reelseat to buttend. I have a orange Abu 6500 Mag Elite with a knobby mag resting on top. What a pretty combo! Owner Bob Jenkins stated my medium action rod handles up to 3oz lure and 4oz in a pinch. I didn't ask about the MH rods, but I'm getting one custom made in the very near future! I went to one of my local fishing spots and casted out 3oz Hopkin's EQL and Kastmasters later in the afternoon today. What a awesome and easy rod to cast! Casts like a champ. Even a caveman can do it! Light, responsive, and a very nice recovery. For a custom job for just around $200, you can't beat that! Slightly higher with the 10ft MH rod. My hats off to Bob Jenkins and his staff for building great beautiful rods. I saw his other creations as well. I wish you guys could see my custom rod in person. They really did do a fantastic job with fit and finish. The hook holder looks like a million bucks! I am one very satisfied customer and I have no shame whatsoever praising this small company in Cape Cod. I think some of you guys will love their products. Google localhookerrods. Bob, thanks for the free t-shirt and the million of "Get Bent" stickers!
Bob - Looks great. I have been using the 7ft spinner a lot this spring and it has been a great rod for me…casts great and has the backbone to stop fish. I have been thinking about getting a rod made on that same 10 ft blank.
Oh, Bob! Went out this morning and did some practice runs with her. Backed off the mag on the Abu, loosen the spool tension a lil. 3oz bank sinker. Off she goes! Rod casts effortless! I'm getting almost the same distance as my longer high end rods! Bob, you told me not to overload the rod, but I put on a 4oz sinker. Didn't put any muscle into it, but a smooth cast. I'm like "Damn!" I think this rod can handle 4oz. Just wouldn't attempt a mega superman cast. Smooth and linear is all it takes to get the 4oz out there! I took out the Abu and slapped on a 525Mag. Very very smooth! I actually got a lil more distance with the 525 than the Abu. Have you got your 525mag yet, Bob?
These rods are the reel deal and they are worth every penny. You will not find a better rod for the price whether it be a St. Croix, Loomis, Penn, Diawa. They just do not compare to these Local Hooker custom rods. Another reason why I keep my business with Local Hooker is, they are made in USA and the respect and service you receive from the people behind this fine company. So do yourself a favor and "Get Bent" on a Local Hooker rod and you will not regret it.
Just fished one (3-piece travel rod, 7 1/2' light/Med. spinning) all last week in the Keys - sweet rod, it handled cobia and snook to 17 pounds no problem, plus grouper to 15 pounds and smaller Spanish macks, mutton snappers, etc. I was very pleased with it. Good price, excellent components.
Also spoke to him for a while at MSBA show, had looked at other rods that day but some seemed to short from the butt to the reel seat. Wife said I deserve one but right now I can't decide on the colors. I think I'll go to the Goose and see them again. I think that the way they are constructed that they are definitely worth the $$s.
I met the owner last summer. He was passionate enough about his product and fishing in general that I bought a Local Hooker Rod (LHR) rod and used it all summer for stripers. Very pleased with it. Real attention to detail and quality construction. Not cheap, but a fair price for a rod that should last a very long time. (And... its made in the USA. That means a lot to me. Might be the last darn product still made here!) I own other supposedly "custom" rods, but this is distinctly crafted better and they will make it any way you want or you can buy one of their standard designs.
This winter I bought light weight sectional LHR for travel and bone fished the flats of the Turks & Caicos. Exceptional action! I really like this equipment and recommend it. The company name is a bit kinky, and don't let the wife Get Bent out of shape over the name. Give LHR a try, you won't be disappointed.
You can also try one out if you're willing to go out on one of the several charter boats on Cape Cod that are using LHR rods.
I played around with a few in the shop and they feel nice. How do they compare to factory rods from lami, breakaway, etc. in the $200 range?
I am a owner of 5 Local Hooker rods. I have 3 custom built 11'6" one piece conventional surf rods and 1 10' conventional surf rod. I also own one of Bobs very first tuna rods which is a custom wrapped calstar blank with chrome guides and chrome butt. What you guys need to understand about these rods is that every rod is made for you. These rods are not sitting in the shop waiting to be purchased, they are "made to order". I read that someone said the reel seat was too low for them, when you order the rod tell Bob that you would like the reel seat moved up and he will be more then happy to make these accommodations for you. When I received my 1st two rods, I took them to the football field when the weather broke and with a 6 oz. and a penn squidder with 30lb line every cast was hitting 75-85 yards.
