Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Why did you start Local Hooker Rods?

A:  As a survivor of being in the WTC-1 on 9-11 when the first plane hit the building, I needed a change in my life.  I wanted a high-quality rod MADE-IN-THE-USA.  Made here in new England; the fishing capital of the World!  I was tired of the sub-standard quality being shipped into the USA and sold as high-end but was junk!  I set out to design and build “Professional Gear For Hardcore Fishing”.

Q:  What makes a Local Hooker Rod so special?

A:  We use the finest parts available, but just good parts doesn’t make a good rod; you have to know how to build and assemble them properly.  We spine every blank (make sure it’s correctly bent).  We under-wrap our double-footed guides (just like putting a blanket on a horses back to protect it from the saddle), we use a VU embedded epoxy to protect from the harmful UV rays of the Sun.  We shim and epoxy the entire reel seats for a better long-lasting bond.

Q:  What components do you use primarily in your rods

A:  We have standardized on Batson Enterprises as our main supplier.  Although we do use Blackhole, Fuji, ATC and others for specific parts

Q:  Where are your rods manufactured?

A:  In our shop here in New England, by a master rod-builder with 30+ years experience

Q:  What is you warranty?

A: See the warranty tab for detail

Q: The site does not seem to be working for me. Help!

A: First, please check out our Site Requirements to make sure that you are using a supported browser and have the necessary features enabled. If you are still having trouble, please contact us.

Q:  What are you goals for Local Hooker Rods?

A:  To help children, specifically kids with cancer!  I see the day we sponsor tournaments to raise money for cancer research.  I already support The Fishing Academy, a non-profit designed to help teach kids how to fish, and Police Athletic League (P.A.L.).  I am sponsoring in the Joe Cronin Memorial (a cancer raising tournament; [art of the Jimmy Fund) this summer on Cape Cod.  I’d like to see a proceed of our sales go to cancer research and to helping kids get into the great sport of fishing!

Thanks again for taking the time to visit my site.  I appreciate it very much!
